Jill announced in April 2026 that her husband, Derick, had joined the Marine Corps. She went on to say that Derick had been selected for Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. He will be gone for 10 weeks with little to no communication with his family.
Jill Duggar-Dillard asked fans for prayers during this new season of their life. The time has come and Derick is leaving
Jill Announces Difficult Goodbye
“And he’s off! ✈️ Prayers appreciated for all of us in this new season as @derickdillard is at the rigorous Marine Corps Officer Candidate school (basic training/bootcamp) this summer with limited to no communication!
“Lord willing, he will graduate and then go on to complete more training before becoming a Marine Corps JAG officer (Marine Corps Attorney)!”
She thanked fans for the love and support. She continued with questions for fans: “❤️Ok…military fam, give me your tips on surviving the little-to-no communication period while also internally stressing out for him! ⬇️Ha! 🙃”
“I saw someone said they call the first week of their spouse being gone to training/deployment/etc. their “wallow week.” Then they create & develop their new routines and all after that…I think I’m gonna borrow that! 😂 lmk how you process best!”
Derick & Jill’s Oldest Son Stands Strong But Obviously Sad
Jill has been preparing for this bittersweet day. This will be the first time in her life that she is alone for 10 weeks. She and the boys will definitely be sad to see Derick go. 11-year-old Israel David looked stand-offish as his dad’s plane prepared to leave.

Jill Says God Led Them in This Direction
“After starting the process in early March, we have been surprised by how quickly things have come together and the doors that have continued to open, so much so that we can’t deny God is leading us in this direction.”
“Lord willing, after Derick’s 10 weeks of intense training at OCS, Jill and the kids will move to join him in Virginia, and then Rhode Island for the remainder of his training.”
Fan support and prayers poured in with advice on how to get through the difficult transition.
- Keep a good daily schedule and remember this is his job now. No news is good news! Pray for him and his new normal and you and the boys new normal! You can do hard things!
- Praying for you guys! ❤️
- Praying for him & for you and your sweet children during this time 🙏🏻🙏🏻
- Here for this/y’all! We just went through this a couple years back and husband went from Enlisted to Officer in the USMC. Cool to see y’all in this season of life as well!! Rooting for yall 🥰🇺🇸
- Get in a routine, stay busy and pick your battles with the littles. You will be fine. It’s not easy, but you can do it.
- My son was a Marine…..he’s dead now. Forever 36
I will say this. Buckle up, this decision is not for the weak minded or physically weak. Honestly, I have doubts Derrick has what it takes. Marines are tough… I don’t see that in this scenario. He has zero clue about how tough training is. Just saying
What do you think about Derick joining the United States military as a JAG attorney?
